Course Overview
The study of European History from 1450 to the present introduces students to cultural, economic, political and social developments that played a fundamental role in shaping the world in which they live. The goals of the AP European History program are to develop an understanding of some of the principal themes in modern European history, an ability to analyze historical evidence and historical interpretation, and an ability to express historical understanding in writing. Students enrolled in a course designated as Advanced Placement are expected to take the exam. It is the expectation that all students enrolled in European History AP will take the A.P. Exam.

A project is required for each term. The Term One project is introductory. The project is intended to familiarize students with the political, social, and economic aspects of Renaissance Italy and provide background information to enrich understanding of the course. It is available to students in June so they have the option of completing it during the summer. See “Term One Project" on homepage for more information about the project and due dates.

The required project in term two is a culminating project. Preparing for and taking the European History AP Exam satisfies this project. Any student who opts NOT to take the exam will complete a project similar to the term one project. Students choosing this option will read Sophie's World and complete a study guide. The study guide will be submitted to the teacher by the end of the second week of May.
